Completing the Arch...

When Scratz and I decided to go with the model of home that we asked if it would be possible to have the arch stained to a darker color then what came standard. You might think to yourself that we would receive a simple Yes or No answer in a short amount of time...well if you thought that you would be wrong. It has taken since August for us to receive the first real response, apparently with all the houses that Ivory Homes has built they have never had anyone ask to have the arch stained. Once they contacted basically everyone in the company, they decided they would let us stain the arch ourselves. So scratz and I had to sign some additional paperwork that gave us permission to be on the job site to complete the staining. Once this was singed, duplicated, and processed by Ivory Homes, we headed to Home Depot to buy some stain and then drove over to the new place to get to work.

We got there sometime after 11am and began getting everything ready to paint. Here is a picture during the process.

Everything was going well until I spilled half of the stain in the container I was holding down onto the porch. Luckily most of it landed on the tarp that we had placed down so we didnt have to clean up much. The problem with this was that we originally bought enough stain to complete the job. Therefore, off to Home Depot we went again to buy more stain. This took longer than we thought. We worked on the arch until 4pm when we had to leave so I could make it to a work meeting.
This is what it looked like after 1 coat. However since according to the instructions it stated we needed at least 2 coats of paint.

Once I got out of the work meeting, I headed from Magna back to our condo to pick up scratz and then drove out to the new place to finish the job. By the time we got to the new place it was already past 9pm and the sun had gone down hours earlier. We had gone to the storage shed and picked up the flood light and an extension cord so we could see as we painted. By the time we finished staining the wood it was after 11pm. Luckily we had left baby k at the grandparents house while we stood outside for the whole time. I am sure the neighbors already think we are insane, but they might as well find out now because they are sure to find out after we move in.

Anyway, today we headed back to the house to see how the "painting in the dark" project turned out. I was impressed with how nicely it turned out for not being able to see what the heck we were doing and this is what we found.

Also, they have stocked the house with Sheetrock and will be completing the mud and tape very soon. We have also received noticed that we are to start getting all the paperwork together which will be needed at closing. Hopefully we can have the house done by the end of November.
